Garry Parenteau Nominated as Liberal Candidate in Lakeland

ST. PAUL, AB – Members of the Lakeland Federal Liberal Association met Wednesday, August 26 and nominated Garry Parenteau as the Liberal Party of Canada candidate in Lakeland for the October 19th federal election.

Garry Parenteau has an extensive background in public administration and in Alberta’s Métis community. He has served as the Chairperson of the Fishing Lake Métis Settlement, the Vice-President of the Métis Settlements General Council, and from 2004 to 2011 he served as the representative of the Métis Settlements General Council to the federal government in Ottawa.

He also served as the Vice President of Finance for the Liberal Party of Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples Commission from 2000 to 2003. Garry is a resident of the Fishing Lake Métis Settlement, and serves as the Settlement’s Oil & Gas Director.

Welcoming his nomination, Garry stated, “I am excited that we had the largest membership turnout in years in support of my nomination. I believe it is important that Lakeland has a strong voice in Ottawa to help support Justin Trudeau’s plan for a better government. I look forward to hitting the campaign trail in the coming days, and building a strong movement for real change in Lakeland this fall.”
