Chief Steve Courtoreille takes over responsibilites of Grand Chief of Treaty 8

The Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta recently announced that Deputy Chief Steve Courtoreille has assumed the full responsibilities of the Office of Grand Chief.

In an October 29, 2014 statement, the Chiefs of the Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta “welcome Grand Chief Courtoreille into this role and remain confident in his ability to continue to work as a collective towards the protection and preservation of Treaty 8.”

Grand Chief Courtoreille is a long time Chief of the Mikisew Cree Nation and brings with him a wealth of experience.

In the statement, the Chiefs of the Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta “extend their gratitude to Chief Richard Kappo of the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation for his hard work and dedication during his time as Grand Chief.”
