Red Crow College fire determined an arson

Standoff, Alberta – The Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) has determined the cause of the fire that consumed the historic Red Crow Community College on August 14, 2015 as arson. It has found the college was intentionally set ablaze during the early morning hours on that date.

Insurance adjusters have estimated the loss to be eleven million dollars ($11,000,000.00).  The Blood Tribe Police Service (BTPS), who were initially called to assist fire investigators, continue to investigate the fire as a criminal offence and will follow up on information related to this matter.

The loss was covered by insurance and any further details related to the cost of the loss and replacement plans should be directed to Red Crow College board members or Chief and Council.
