Grade 12 student Julia Gladue was the class valedictorian at the 2014 Amiskwaciy Academy Graduation Ceremony held recently in Edmonton. Her remarks to her classmates were both moving and inspirational.
“There are no words to express how grateful and thankful I am to have attended such an amazing, wonderful and caring school,” stated 17 year old Valedictorian Julia Gladue. “I had so many wonderful and amazing opportunities, including that as a participant of Leadership and Rotary. I once wrote on the board in Ms. Sorensen’s room: Surround yourself with people who believe in your dream. At the time it didn’t mean nearly as much as it means today. I now understand the meaning of this quote and I know that it belongs to the values of Amiskwaciy because these are people who truly believe in your dreams. This is my second home and this is my second family; I have received the same outstanding support in school as I receive at home and that has made a big difference.”
Julia continued, “Education Is The New Buffalo is a phrase that my dad and my teachers have often pointed out. I now know it to be true and I will continue to work hard to achieve all of my goals, both educational and career oriented. I know that each and every one of my fellow graduates has big dreams and hopes for the future; whether those dreams take you to another classroom or the workplace I wish you all the best in everything you do. Together we will make a difference in our communities because now we have the tools and the knowledge to move forward and accomplish anything we set our minds to. Hiy, hiy.”
