Craig Makinaw is elected Assembly of First Nations Alberta Regional Chief

(Ottawa, ON) – Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Perry Bellegarde congratulates Craig Makinaw on his May 25 election as Alberta Regional Chief and welcomes him to the AFN National Executive. He will be taking office on July 1st, 2015.

 “I offer congratulations to newly-elected Regional Chief Makinaw. I look forward to working together to address the very important issues facing First Nation communities in the Alberta region and welcome his knowledge and many years of political experience,” said National Chief Bellegarde. “I would also like to thank outgoing Alberta Regional Chief Cameron Alexis for all of his work at the national level. Your tireless work on the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women is deeply appreciated.”

Craig Makinaw is a Cree from the Ermineskin Cree Nation. He was the Grand Chief of Treaty Six from 2012-2014. He was the Chief of Ermineskin Cree Nation between 2011 and 2014 and served as a councillor from 1993 to 2011.
