Ben Calf Robe Pow Wow delights thousands of spectators, dancers and dignitaries in Edmonton

(ANNews) – Over 7000 people converged at the Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre in Edmonton on Saturday May 7 to celebrate the 35th Annual Ben Calf Robe Traditional Pow Wow. The spectacular event was hosted by Edmonton Catholic Schools, the Ben Calf Robe Society and Aboriginal Learning Services in partnership with the City of Edmonton.

The Pow Wow featured leaders and dancers from across the province and beyond, showcasing the extraordinary beauty and vibrancy of Indigenous culture.  Alberta Native News writer John Copley attended the event and will be reporting on the many aspects that contributed to its success.

Highlights included 27 drum groups, hundreds of beautiful dancers wearing exquisite, brightly coloured outfits and performing numerous dances, respected Elders, and an exceptional Grand Entry with First Nation leaders, special guests and dignitaries.  There were also many speakers who imparted inspirational messages to the thousands of spectators in attendance.

Here are three videoclips from the event. Two feature some vibrant dancers and the third is from the Grand Entry. Enjoy and check back soon for a complete write up.
